Tailwind vs Trick Room
Tailwind and Trick Room both control move order, but they reward different teams. Tailwind accelerates a side’s existing Speed; Trick Room reverses Speed order inside each priority bracket.
Using Tailwind
Tailwind works best when fast or moderately fast attackers can immediately turn doubled Speed into knockouts. Fake Out, redirection, and defensive typing can help the setter establish it safely.
Using Trick Room
Trick Room favors slow, powerful Pokémon. The setup turn is often the most vulnerable, so setters commonly use bulk, defensive items, priority protection, Fake Out support, or redirection.
Playing against speed control
You can stop the setup move, reverse it with your own Trick Room, stall its limited turns with Protect and switching, or use priority attacks that operate outside normal Speed order. The correct answer depends on the visible damage threats beside the setter.
